Michael Jackson told of fears for life in phone calls

series of telephone messages left by Michael Jackson have emerged in which he pleads for financial help and tells of his fears for his life.

The messages on a friend's answering machine were made by the singer six years before his death aged 50 in Los Angeles last June. Journalist Daphne Barak was handed the tapes after she wrote a book on celebrities' addictions.

She claims the recordings illustrate how he appeared to be suffering from an addiction to prescription drugs. In the first tape, Jackson says: "It is very important, I want that 150 in that account for me, because [...] I am very concerned about my life."

In another message, he says: "I don't trust that man. We think he's bad, we think he's Italian Mafia." Jackson's doctor has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.
